To ensure that the aspirations and preservation work follows through, the Pulau Banding Foundation (PBF) was simultaneously set up with the construction of the Pulau Banding Rainforest Research Centre (PBRRC).

Developed on a 2.77-acre land plot with a built-up area of 2,000 sq ft with provision for further expansion, the current RM2 million building forms the “nucleus” of the research centre.

Currently, the PBRRC provides basic facilities for researchers or bio-prospectors to station themselves as well as their equipment. The centre thus acts as a transit or working base where they can assemble their samples as they go to and from the Rainforest where their actual research work takes place.

The main objective for the setting up of the Pulau Banding Raiforest Research Centre (PBRRC) is to provide a world-class research base for scientists and researchers to engage in projects which study aspects of the tropical rainforest and its environment.

Additionally, the PBRRC will initiate linkages and networking with local and international research institutes as well as universities. It will also provide study grants/loans to deserving students in the field.

In the long term, the PBRRC strives to put Malaysia on the world map for the research of sustainable rainforest terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems by offering scientific excellence in technical and analytical services into rainforest research.

Also, the PBRRC hopes that the systematic and sustainable bio prospecting and research activities carried out would perhaps land a cure for the major diseases of the world.
